It is no secret that I have a soft spot in my heart for anything mid-century. So it is no wonder that this bottle caught my eye in the flea market. The real pearl can be found on the backside.
It says in Finnish ‘pronounced sprait’. Wow. As an interculturalist, a million things fill my mind. How important is it to sound like a native? Was it an attempt to become international? Was it like a cheat sheet to impress family and friends? Was Sprite exotic? Why haven’t I seen this on other products in other countries? I would surely need this on French wine labels (sha-toh, pee-no N’war, Ro-zay dahn-zhoo).
